Become a membership support officer

If you consider this is for you and you would like to nominate please contact ARQRV office.

Role of a membership support officer

ARQRV is represented by a network of membership support officers each based within a retirement village. Membership support officers (MSO) are the day-to-day face of ARQRV and a conduit between members and the ARQRV committee (the Committee).

The role of a MSO is essentially to raise the profile of ARQRV within their retirement village and to refer members who have an issue with the scheme operator of the retirement village, to the ARQRV committee.

Membership support officers make themselves known to new residents in the village and pass on information about the benefits of being part of an organisation devoted to helping residents in Queensland retirement villages.

The main duties of a membership support officer are to:

  • promote the services of ARQRV to new and existing residents
  • assist with new memberships
  • assist with existing membership renewals
  • refer members who have an issue with the retirement village scheme operator, to the Committee

Eligibility

The role of a membership support officer is a voluntary position. Only village residents with an email address are eligible to take on this position as all ARQRV communication with each MSO is by email.

Membership support officers should enjoy talking to people and be confident in handling small amounts of cash.

Villages with ARQRV members can choose a MSO or have one recruited by the ARQRV Committee. The person chosen as a MSO must be a resident of the village and must also be a financial member of ARQRV.

Support for the role

A Membership Support Officer Handbook has been developed by ARQRV to assist village membership support officers (MSO) in their role.

It contains helpful information such as ARQRV contacts, how to promote ARQRV within your village and how to process membership applications and renewals. It also contains helpful checklists and information on how to refer members with issues to the ARQRV.

Administrative support for MSO is also provided by ARQRV. A MSO pack containing all the resources required to undertake the role is provided. These resources include, brochures, membership forms, a MSO badge, receipt book and payment forms. The ARQRV office staff can provide help with membership enquiries or can forward any resources you may require undertaking the role. The ARQRV office can be contacted by telephone or by email.

A newsletter, ‘MSO News’, is regularly sent to all MSOs providing helpful information in support of their role.
